Happy New Year!
It has been a couple of days since the 2008 MBC Drama Awards, and I didn’t have a chance to watch the program until today. Wonchun and Lynn translated it before me, but I wanted to share all of the conversations wuri YJ nim had with the 2 emcees. I sincerely appreciate Wonchun and Lynn for their efforts and I’m reposting a couple of pictures from imbc.com. Please enjoy.
Shin: Now, we’ll announce the honorable Grand Award Winner of 2008 MBC Grand Awards as the last award.
Han: Yes, for the announcement of the honorable Grand Award winner, previous year
‘s winner, Bae Yong Joon is waiting for it.
Shin: It has been one year since wuri Yonsama has appeared. Actually, it might be difficult to watch the scenes if not watching this MBC Grand Awards. There are so many rumors floating around.
Han: What rumors?
Shin: There were rumors, like his hair has grown to about his waist, or his hip..something like that. There are so many rumors. A little later, we will be seeing him in a year and confirming it. What kind of appearance will he show today? Here is last year’s Grand Award winner, Bae Yong Yoon ssi.

Bae Yong Joon: Thank you. I really appreciate the viewers who have trust in us and been waiting for our drama all the way.

Bae: Annyeonghaseyo, this is Bae Yong Joon.
(Applause)
Bae: It has been a year since I have appeared. Many directors, staff, actors, actress, and seniors, have put forth hard work to produce good dramas this year. It looks like the end of this year is more difficult compared to other times, but I hope MBC drama will give hopes and laughs to many people of the new year. I’ll work hard as an actor as well.
Shin: It has been a year, Bae Yong Joon ssi. I’m glad to see you. There are so many rumors about your hair, like your hair is near your waist, or hip, and someone said that your hair was braided, but now we can confirm that it’s not true. I have a personal question for you. You have been waiting quite a long time backstage.
Bae: Yes.
Shin: I’m wondering if you were curious about the Grand Award winner and already opened the envelope.
Bae: I didn’t because I heard that it would be marked if I had opened it.
Shin: That’s why. We work hard to have the envelope explode with stuff to keep it from being opened backstage if we have enough production costs.
(laughs)
Shin: Do you remember his black crutches, which were the biggest topic last year and were the fanciest ones that I’ve ever seen in my life?
Han: You even had special crutches.
Shin: I asked you before what you were going to do with those crutches later on. Do you still have those, or did you give them to someone as a present? Or did you put them up in an auction due to your financial difficulties?
Bae: They’re at my house.
Shin: I’ve never thought that I wanted to keep them as well.
Shin: Do you remember last year? I asked you when you were going to get married. You said that you would marry in three years no matter what happened. One year passed already. Two years are left, please share the story if you have good news that we don’t know about.
Bae: It seems that there is something can’t be achieved even with plans and efforts. And still 2 years remain, I’ll try hard.
Han: Many women dreamed about that, didn’t they?
Shin: Actually 2 years will be passing quickly. You might marry a strange girl to keep the promise with your fans and to marry within 2 years if you’re not prepared, so please work hard. Now, Bae Yong Joon ssi, will you please announce the Grand Award winner.
Han: Who do you think will receive the Award?
Shin: It’s a very difficult question.
Bae: Well. It might be a boring answer no matter how I answer.
Shin: then..
Bae: Ah, personally, I hope my close junior SSH would get the Award, but there are many competitive actors whom I have been impressed with. I really don’t know who would get the award.
Han: You might have answered a difficult question.
Shin: I thought you would answer conventionally because it was a very difficult question but you showed your thoughts.

Annyeonghaseyo, Family. This is Bae Yong Joon.
The first day of 2009 came, and I would like to remember this time with you, Family.
First of all, I would like to show my gratitude for you all. I received everyone of more than 2000 letters you sent to me last summer. It was an opportunity for me to deliberate regarding your love and interest about Korea.
I’m happily making a book with the thought of traveling together with you while planning a book and considering all the opinions. It’s not easy because it was the first time for me, but it’s a good way to learn from it.
You might be curious about what kind of book will be published, but it looks like it is in between being a travel guide book, which introduces Korean culture, and a book of humanism.
By discovering hidden cultures of Korea and secret locations, I would like to make a book that anyone can look at enjoyably. I am finding the strength through all the new places, people and experiences. Now that the New Year is beginning, looking back on the memories of the past year is making me feel happier.
Even at this moment, when I am thinking of all the new events and what new times I can spend with the members of the family, my heart is beating from excitement. I think there are definitely lots of times that help create the heart that is the fence of what a family is. I am sure that even in 2009, I will be lucky to have that same, warm family that I can think about at the times that I am sad or struggling; and I am always thankful for that.
I think last year was generally a difficult and strenuous time for the world. In 2009, I am hoping that the year will bring happiness and allow everyone, not just the Family, to accomplish all that we wish for. And I truly wish that everyone’s families are also always happy and healthy together.
I hope you have lots of luck in the New Year.

안녕하세요? 가족 여러분, 배용준입니다..
2009년의 첫 날을 맞이하며 가족 분들과 이 시간을 함께 기억하고 싶어서 인사드립니다.
먼저, 감사하단 말씀부터 드려야 할 것 같아요.
지난 여름에 가족분들이 보내주셨던 2000여통의 편지는 하나하나 잘 받아 보았습니다.
한국에 대한 깊은 애정과 관심에 제가 오히려 반성을 하는 계기가 되었어요.
책을 기획하면서 의견들을 충분히 반영하여 함께 여행한다는 생각으로 즐겁게 만들고 있습니다.
처음 해 보는 작업이기에 쉽지는 않지만 좋은 공부를 하고 있는 중입니다.
어떤 책이 나올지 궁금하실 텐데요. 한국 문화를 소개하는 여행서와 인문서의 중간쯤이 될 것 같습
니다.
한국문화의 숨겨진 이야기와 장소를 발굴해서 누구나 재미있게 볼 수 있는 책을 만들고 싶구요.
새로운 장소, 새로운 사람, 새로운 경험을 통해 많은 배움과 큰 힘을 얻고 있습니다. 이렇듯 새해를
맞아 지난 한 해를 돌아보면 따뜻한 기억들이 많아 기분이 좋아집니다.
지금 이 순간도 새로운 계획들이 떠오르고 가족 분들과는 어떤 좋은 일들을 함께 할 수 있을까 하
는 생각을 하면 마음이 셀레입니다.
가족이란 마음의 울타리 안에서 함께 만들어 갈 수 있는 일들은 참 많은 것 같은데요. 2009년에도
그 따뜻한 울타리를 생각하며 외롭거나 힘든 순간들도 잘 이겨낼 수 있을 것 같아 다행이고, 항상
고마울 뿐 입니다.
지난 해에는 전 세계적으로 힘들고 어려운 시간이었던 것 같습니다.
2009년은 우리 가족 분들뿐 아니라 모두가 바라는 바를 이룰 수 행복한 한 해가 되었으면 합니다.
그리고 여러분의 가정에도 언제나 행복과 건강이 함께 하시길 진심으로 바라겠습니다.

2009年の新たな日を、家族の皆様と一緒に迎えることのできるこの時間を心に刻んでおきたくて、ご挨拶させていただきます。
まず、皆様への感謝の気持ちからお伝えしたいと思います。
去年の夏に家族の皆様が送ってくださった2000通にのぼる手紙は、1通1通大切に読ませていただきました。
韓国に対する深い愛情と関心に触れ、私はむしろ反省するきっかけになりました。
本の企画をたてながら、いただいたご意見を充分に反映して、皆様と一緒に旅行している気分で楽しい気持ちです。
初めてのことなので、決して易しい作業ではありませんが、勉強しながら続けています。
どのような本になるのか、というと、韓国文化を紹介する旅行ガイドブックと人文書の中間のような本になりそうです。
韓国文化に隠された話と、その場所を訪ねて誰でも面白く見ていただける本を作りたいと思っています。
新しい場所、新しい人、新しい経験を通じて学ぶことも多く、また大きな力も得ています。
このように新年に迎え、去る一年を振り返ってみるとたくさんのあたたかい想い出でとても良い気分になります。
今この瞬間も新しい計画が浮かんできて、家族の皆様と一緒にどんな良いことができるのかと考えると、心がワクワクしてきます。
家族という心の垣根の中で一緒に作っていけることがたくさんあると思います。
2009年もそのあたたかい垣根を思って、淋しかったり大変だったりする瞬間もきっと乗り越えることができると思うと幸せですし、いつも感謝の気持ちでいっぱいになります。
